On May 16th, the Estancia FFA held our annual FFA Awards banquet. Josh Calhoon, Estancia FFA Chaplain, presented a prayer, then a dinner of smoked brisket, ribs and sausage was served and Lyndi Otis presented the FFA Creed. The officers, Sophia Sedillo, Jayde Perea, Payton Otis, Trinity Lucero, Adylay Bustillos and Jazmine Dominguez, began the Banquet with opening ceremonies, and then Jayde Perea recognized all special guests. Mr. Harbert awarded all the degree pins, Chapter, Greenhand and Discovery.
President Sophia Sedillo called Vicki and Jim Berlier to the stage to present the scholarship. Mr. and Mrs. Berlier talked about what the John Berlier Scholarship was and who was going to receive it. They presented $1500 scholarships to Sophia Sedillo, Jayde Perea, and Jacqueline Carreon. Sophia Sedillo received a $500 scholarship from the NM State FFA Association. Every team that competed at state then went up on stage and talked about their contest and how they did during the season.

High points awards were given for each contest including, Agronomy Kymber Casados, Ag Mech Lane Sarno, Forestry, Brian Watts, Horticulture Kayla Metzger, Land Edward Lucero, Livestock Jayde Perea, Meats Gianni Warren, Vet Science Alayna Thomas, Wildlife Abelino Ortiz, and Wool Colin Pope. Mr. Harbert presented Kayla with the Beef and Swine Production proficiency awards. He also presented Amber Maberry with the Goat Production proficiency and to Sophia Sedillo for Ag Sales.
Next, we presented the Star awards which are presented to FFA members who were the most prominent in their SAE’s, CDE’s and Leadership and were the most outstanding in the chapter. The Dekalb Leadership Award was given to Sophia Sedillo. Sway Perkins was the outstanding 7th grader, Shelby Sarno, Kendra Smith, and Mariella Aragon were the outstanding 8th graders and Nora Encinias was Star Greenhand. Jayde Perea was awarded the Star Chapter Farmer Award.
All the seniors then were called to the stage and Mr. Harbert conducted the retiring senior’s ceremony. He talked about the accomplishments of each senior and rewarded them with an FFA graduation sash, placing it around their neck. The officers from the 2021-22 school year were awarded a plaque for their service to the chapter, then each picked a younger member who they thought of as a mentee and presented them with a gift.
The last job of the current Chapter Officers was to retire the old officers and install the new ones. New officers for the 2022-23 school year will be President Payton Otis, Vice-President Trinity Lucero, Secretary Kayla Metzger, Treasurer Lyndi Otis, Reporter Nora Encinias, Sentinel Kymber Casados, Historian Jazmine Dominguez, and Chaplain Josh Calhoon. Payton Otis, who is the new Estancia FFA President, adjourned the meeting with closing ceremonies.
The Estancia FFA would like to thank Leah Riley and Linda Warren for the delicious cobblers and Ted and Loretta Moseley for cooking the brisket, ribs and sausage. Also a hearty thanks to the school cooks for the hot rolls and baked potatoes and serving the meal.
