From the hallways of Estancia High School to the dusty counters of Gustin’s Hardware, Estancia is buzzing with news of radical changes coming to Estancia’s education system. Estancia is also abuzz with gossip, as is common in small towns, but with the news of Estancia High School’s evolution into a post COVID-19 world.

Many departments are failing to evolve with modern instruction techniques, including the math department. As our school grows it seems that new, uneducated or unmotivated teachers have been added, causing students to struggle and fail. While students were left unsupported, except by a single teacher, the issue might be in the process of rectifying itself with the possible resignation of a teacher.

Unfortunately, this does not seem to be the end of Estancia’s academic issues, because it seems the root source of the problem could potentially be the lack of effort shown by an out-of-touch majority of the school board. Simply reading the vague board minutes, a task I wish on none of you, demonstrates most of the school board is perhaps unaware of the academic problems. Their focus, with regards to the educational programs, is simply based on an averaged test score.

“The problem could potentially be the lack of effort shown by an out-of-touch majority of the school board.”

On a positive note, the head coach appears to be leading the sports program exceptionally well, with the exception of one sport, regardless of the unfortunate retirement of Coach Calhoon. The cheer program appears to continue to be abysmal, barely even being able to be called a sport under the current leadership. With the addition of the new turf on the football field we can only hope to see the addition of a cheer coach who will actually coach, and not simply collect a paycheck.

Overall the beating heart of Estancia’s future seems to be becoming not only out of date, but also ineffective. Follow along with Q at Heard in the Hallway as Q dishes out the hot gossip lurking in the hallways of Estancia.
