On May 18th, 2022, several of the Estancia Chapter of the Future Farmers of America (FFA) members attended the monthly meeting of the East Torrance Soil and Water Conservation District (ETSWCD). The Career Development Event (CDE) Teams who placed “top 5 at State” spoke about their contests and placings at the New Mexico FFA State CDE’s.

Seven of the chapter’s nine teams that participated in NM State FFA CDE’s placed in the “top five”, along with five individuals. The teams included Land (1st), Horticulture (1st), Meats (1st), Vet Science (2nd), Agronomy (3rd), Livestock (5th), and Wildlife (5th). Individuals placing in the “top five” included Edward Lucero (1st) and Jace Solomon (3rd) in Land, Kayla Metzger (2nd) in Horticulture, Gianni Warren (1st) and Jayde Perea (2nd) in Meats, and Jayde Perea (4th) in Livestock.

The East Torrance Soil and Water Conservation District donated money to the Estancia FFA chapter for doing so well in the contests. FFA members introduced themselves and told others in attendance a little about how the year went with the CDE’s.

After discussions about each contest, the ETSWCD awarded checks to the FFA teams. Checks were also awarded to the individuals who placed in the “top five”. At the end of the meeting a group picture was taken and the FFA members thanked the East Torrance Soil and Water Conservation District for their contributions to the FFA chapter. The Estancia Chapter of the Future Farmers of America greatly appreciates everyone’s support throughout the year.
