The following is a press release provided by Sheriff David Frazee:

Our deputies are out in the various communities fighting crime 24 / 7, and until recently that wasn’t always the case. We have a very professional cadre of deputies in Torrance County, working hard to keep the community safe, and every so often the deputies make an arrest or conduct other police functions in a manner that reflects favorably on our department, and these events are noteworthy. The following case is one of those times that I feel is worthy of public recognition.

On December 31, 2022, on Highway 41 near the Pilot gas station in Moriarty, Deputy Pablo Arreola made a traffic stop on a vehicle for having an obstructed registration plate. Experience and training led Deputy Arreola to suspect that the occupant may be possessing and transporting illegal drugs. Deputy Arreola requested consent to search the suspect’s vehicle and voluntary consent was given. During a search of the vehicle, Deputy Arreola seized 28.8 grams of methamphetamine, valued at $600.00 street value along with the seizure of a stolen firearm, both serious felonies, especially combining the meth with a firearm. The suspect, Monique Alcazar was arrested and booked on the charges.

Rather than simply issue a traffic citation and go on, the deputy’s intuition led him to further his investigation, confirming our department’s commitment to service the people of the county.

Deputy Arreola’s supervisors recognized his efforts and I wholeheartedly concur.

Thank you all for being supportive of the Torrance County Sheriff’s Department!
